Superman and Lex Luthor Team Up in Man of Tomorrow: What to Expect

The upcoming film Man of Tomorrow has generated excitement among fans, particularly regarding the potential collaboration between Superman and Lex Luthor. With a release date set for July 9, 2027, and confirmation from James Gunn that this will not be a traditional sequel, speculation is running high.

Superman Fans Are Convinced He’ll Team Up with Lex Luthor in Man of Tomorrow

The announcement of Man of Tomorrow has generated significant buzz, with James Gunn confirming a release date of July 9, 2027. Featuring David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in Jim Lee’s teaser art, fans are speculating about a potential Superman–Lex Luthor team-up. Gunn clarified that the film is not a direct sequel but will focus on both characters as central leads.

Fans have reacted strongly to the reveal of Man of Tomorrow, particularly the idea of Superman and Lex Luthor collaborating. One fan commented, “I can see them either facing off earlier and teaming up in the third act, or teaming up and then Lex betraying Superman. The title ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is intentionally ambiguous as it reflects two different symbols and ideologies.”

Another fan theorized, “I think James didn’t call this a full sequel because it’s a Superman and Lex team up (although I’m sure they will also fight). The title is brilliant because in different ways they both symbolize a ‘Man of Tomorrow.’”

Some responses highlighted the shift in focus away from a traditional sequel. One post stated, “So James Gunn confirmed that Man of Tomorrow isn’t a sequel, but instead a team up film. Both Superman and Lex are co-leads, meaning Man of Tomorrow refers to each of them.”

Another reaction noted, “Lex Luthor, following the events of Superman and REDACTED, is forced to team up with the most unlikely ally imaginable. The ‘man’ he hates more than anyone else on planet Earth. But what do they face? What unites this unlikely duo? It’s definitely not from Earth…”

Speculation about villains and future arcs has also emerged. One fan suggested, “Looks like a Superman + Lex Luthor team up!!…against Maybe Brainiac?!” Another theorized, “So Man of Tomorrow has Superman and Lex reluctantly team up to save the world from Brainiac, and with Lex’s newfound goodwill and positive PR, he runs for president by the third movie.”

Notably, both Corenswet and Hoult have confirmed their return in the upcoming DCU project.
