Next James Bond Found: ‘Dexter’ Star Patrick Gibson Voicing 007

The iconic character of James Bond is set to return in a fresh format, with Patrick Gibson from ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ taking on the role of 007 in the upcoming video game ‘007 First Light’.
The Next James Bond Has Been Found in a ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Star — But There’s a Catch
His name is Bond, James Bond, and he’s coming to life in a new way. As Amazon gears up for the next era of 007 on both the big and small screens after being handed the reins by franchise stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the company has found the man who will play its British Secret Service agent. At least, on the video game side of things. The official trailer for IO Interactive’s much-anticipated 007 First Light was revealed today during Sony’s State of Play, confirming that Patrick Gibson, the star of the recently-cancelled Dexter: Original Sin, will be voicing the gentleman spy. Along with the announcement came an official release date of March 27, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
First Light serves as an original origin story for Bond, inspired by Ian Fleming‘s novels and following Bond as a “young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit” going through the MI6 training program on his way to becoming the world’s most famous spy. The gameplay trailer teases a dramatic narrative action-adventure for players as they slip into high-class parties, get into brawls and shoot-outs with hired goons, take part in high-stakes car chases, and more as they live out their own Bond movie. Throughout it all, the goal is to track down 009, an agent who’s vanished, sending the rookie spy on a death-defying international chase with dangerous implications for the U.K. if they can’t be found in time. It’s a story that will let players take the wheel during massive action setpieces that have otherwise been saved for the big screen.
Gibson has been quickly making a name for himself of late, between embodying the younger version of Michael C. Hall‘s iconic serial killer and starring in other notable series like The OA and Shadow & Bone. Joining his 007 will be Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Miss Moneypenny, Lennie James as his mentor, John Greenway, and Noemie Nakai as Miss Roth. Since its announcement back in 2020, excitement for the new James Bond game has been high thanks to IOI’s involvement. They have plenty of experience crafting the kind of intricate spy story and larger-than-life settings the agent is known for, thanks to their acclaimed work on the modern Hitman trilogy of games.
What’s the Current Status of the Next James Bond Movie?
Between the cast, creators, and gameplay that looks to put all the James Bond action in the hands of fans, 007 First Light is shaping up as an exciting new addition to the franchise coming soon. Those waiting for a new film, however, will have to hold on a while longer. Dune‘s Denis Villeneuve was tapped back in June for the coveted director’s chair, and since then, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was brought aboard to pen what will be the follow-up to 2021’s No Time to Die. A name still hasn’t been picked for the agent himself, though, with a lot of pressure to find the right actor to carry the torch into a new generation. It’s up to producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, through their Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films banners, to make it all happen and, ultimately, make the right call for who should take up the mantle of 007 next.
