Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Everything You Need to Know

Get ready for the highly anticipated return of Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With filming underway in Glasgow, Scotland, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are revealing exciting details about this upcoming installment.

We’re less than a year away from the return of Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. As filming begins in the iconic hometown of the wall-crawler—Glasgow, Scotland—Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are releasing a wealth of information about this highly anticipated fourth installment in the series.

Brand New what?

Breaking from the traditional naming convention that includes the word “Home,” the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie draws its title from a controversial 2008 comic book storyline. This storyline saw Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson erased from the timeline, among other significant retcons.

However, given the events of No Way Home, which already altered the memory of this universe’s MJ, some elements of that title’s essence are woven into the film’s narrative from the very beginning.

Who is in it?

Brand New Day will feature the return of Holland in his fourth standalone film and seventh MCU appearance. Also reprising their roles are Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. New additions to the cast include the current on-screen Punisher, Jon Bernthal, his co-star from The Bear, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Sadie Sink in a mystery role that has sparked numerous fan theories related to her hair color.

Following the teaser release, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Mark Ruffalo has joined the cast, bringing the Incredible Hulk into the mix. Additionally, Better Call Saul‘s Michael Mando, who first appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming as the Scorpion, will also be featured.

Who’s directing?

After successfully directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton was initially set to helm the next Avengers film: The Kang Dynasty. However, with the Russo Brothers returning to tackle that film’s new version, Avengers: Doomsday, Cretton has shifted his focus to Brand New Day. According to Holland, the director is adopting a more hands-on approach to filmmaking, moving away from the soundstage limitations that characterized No Way Home.

“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow. We’re going to use the streets of Glasgow to create this massive set-piece that we’re putting together,” Holland told Flip Your Wig. “It’s going to feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it; it’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

To commemorate the anniversary of Spider-Man’s first appearance in Amazing Fantasy No. 15, Sony released a teaser clip showcasing some close-up glimpses of what appears to be Spidey’s brand new suit for Brand New Day.

The most striking feature is the raised black webbing on the red section of the costume, reminiscent of the suit worn by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi‘s trilogy.

Holland later shared a more complete look at the suit, which closely resembles the homemade outfit Spidey dons at the end of No Way Home.

As location shooting commenced in Glasgow, Sony unveiled an official glimpse of filming on a set piece, featuring Holland as Spidey, riding atop a moving military vehicle. Some lucky fans were allowed on set, and the actor took time for photo opportunities.

When does it come out?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
