Katherine Woodman Reflects on Her Time in the Big Brother House
Katherine Woodman, a 23-year-old fine dining server from Columbia, S.C., is relieved to be back in the real world after being evicted 7-1 over Ava Pearl on Thursday night’s episode of Big Brother, following a nomination by Head of Household Vince Panaro.
“I’m excited to talk to friends and family,” she tells Gold Derby. “I never felt fully in control or trusting of the HOHs these past weeks. The most significant turning point was when Lauren Domingue used the Veto on Vince, leading to Rylie Jeffries going up. Regardless of who was nominated by Rachel Reilly, chaos was inevitable. That was my biggest turning point; I knew I could never fully trust Vince again.”
Katherine’s Emotional Journey
Tears have flowed freely in the Big Brother house this summer, and Katherine believes her emotional restraint may have worked against her. “I’m not a cryer,” she admits. “Other houseguests even told me they thought I didn’t care enough because I didn’t cry often. I found that surprising because I felt incredibly emotional in there. It was intense.”
A Surprising Showmance
Katherine’s experience in the house was marked by her unexpected showmance with Rylie. “I didn’t foresee that happening,” she shares. “I thought if I developed feelings for someone, I could easily avoid pursuing it in the house. I was wrong. I’m usually good at compartmentalizing, but Rylie is charming and a genuinely good person.”
Defending Rylie
Since her eviction, Katherine has learned about the backlash Rylie has faced online, with accusations of being “controlling” and “aggressive.” She quickly defends him: “Specific instances were exaggerated. There were high emotions — it was intense for everyone. The romantic aspect may have made his actions seem more serious than they were. If we were just friends, I doubt it would have been perceived as such. I know I wasn’t uncomfortable or unhappy. I hope he’s doing OK. I’m eager to talk to him and see how he’s doing.”
Full Interview with Katherine
Gold Derby: Why couldn’t you and Rachel see eye-to-eye this season?
Katherine: I felt she crossed personal lines. I realized too late that she tries to connect with people to make them feel close to her. The things that made me feel secure were later used against me. Sending Rylie home and wanting me on the block felt like crossing a boundary.
As time passes, I realize that probably wasn’t her intent. If it was, that’s concerning! I coped with humor, making comments — I don’t remember most of them — but it was my way of handling the situation. I thought they were funny, though not everyone did, so I apologize for that.
Were you shocked when Vince put you on the block?
No, I wish I were. I thought, “He is either easily manipulated and still on my side or working against me and those I’m close to.” Those were the two scenarios I considered. My nomination proved both correct and incorrect. He often questions his game and is a bit paranoid.
How do you think things will play out now that Keanu Soto has become HOH?
I think Vince might be safe this week; I’m not sure Keanu would target him immediately. If he doesn’t put Rachel up, it could be Vince. I can’t predict Keanu’s moves; I expect surprises with his power.
Who is in the best position to win?
Will Williams is in a strong position. I was surprised to learn that some of his closest allies aren’t in his alliance at all. That’s unexpected! He’s slightly underestimated — I admit I did too — and he moves discreetly in the house.
Who do you want to win?
I would like to see Rachel and Vince as the final two. I want Rachel to win so everyone feels the regret of letting her progress this far. It’s insane she hasn’t touched the block yet; she knows what she’s doing!
I didn’t expect you to say that. Water under the bridge? It’s all game for you?
Every hour I’m away from the house, I feel that way. Even when I made certain comments in the house — mostly meant humorously — I knew I would likely be fine after leaving. It’s all water under the bridge — at least for me.
