Everything to Know About Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice Adaptation

Production has officially begun on a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, Pride and Prejudice, set to premiere on Netflix.

Production Overview

Production is officially underway on a fresh adaptation of Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice, helmed by Euros Lyn, the director of Heartstopper, and adapted by bestselling author Dolly Alderton. This six-part Netflix series features a star-studded cast, led by Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, The Crown) as Elizabeth Bennet and BAFTA winner Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction) as the enigmatic Mr. Darcy. Adding even more prestige to the lineup is Oscar and Emmy winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown), stepping into the role of the spirited Mrs. Bennet.

Who’s in the Cast?

In addition to Corrin, Lowden, and Colman, Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat, Scoop) will star as the beloved Mr. Bennet. The Bennet sisterhood will feature Freya Mavor (Industry) as Jane Bennet alongside Heartstopper alumnae Rhea Norwood as Lydia and newcomers Hollie Avery and Hopey Parish in their debut roles as Kitty and Mary. Louis Partridge will take on Mr. Darcy’s nemesis, Mr. Wickham, with Jamie Demetriou portraying the pompous Mr. Collins and Fiona Shaw as the formidable Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Additional cast members include Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley and Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley.

Also joining the ensemble cast are Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts, A Streetcar Named Desire) as Mrs. Gardiner, Sebastian Armesto (Gangs of London, A Small Light) as Mr. Gardiner, Rosie Cavaliero (KAOS, Bookish) as Lady Lucas, Saffron Coomber (Three Little Birds and Die Zweiflers) as Mrs. Hurst, James Dryden (Deadpool, Time Bandits) as Mr. Hurst, Justin Edwards (The Thick Of It, The Franchise) as Sir William Lucas, James Northcote (The Last Kingdom, Fool Me Once) as Colonel Forster, Eloise Webb (The Queen’s Gambit, Sanditon) as Harriet Forster, and Isabella Sermon (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World: Dominion) as Georgiana Darcy.

What’s the Plot?

The limited series, based on Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice, tells the story of the Bennet sisters and their quest for suitable marriages in 19th-century England. At its heart is Elizabeth Bennet, the headstrong second eldest, whose fiery clashes with the proud and wealthy Mr. Darcy stem from his initial disdain for her family’s social standing and her own quick judgments about his character. As misunderstandings and events unfold, Elizabeth and Darcy must confront their own pride and prejudice to truly understand one another.

Who’s Behind the Scenes?

Writer Dolly Alderton and director Euros Lyn are executive producing the series alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, with Corrin earning their first executive producer credit as well. Lisa Osborne (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light) is producing.

Speaking earlier in the year about the new series, Dolly Alderton (writer and executive producer) said: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.”
