Dolores Catania is candidly sharing her experiences with weight loss.

The 54-year-old star of Real Housewives of New Jersey has been open about her use of GLP-1 medications to assist in her weight loss efforts.

In an exclusive interview with JustJared.com, Dolores tackled the stigma surrounding weight loss drugs and discussed how she copes with the side effects of these medications.

“I feel like they’re afraid of the backlash,” Dolores stated regarding why many celebrities shy away from admitting they use weight loss drugs. “While taking GLP-1 medications, you experience side effects, but that doesn’t mean you can neglect a healthy lifestyle.”

“You still need to exercise,” she emphasized. “I have a trainer and work out three to four times a week. I dislike it immensely; I’d rather drink poison than work out. People don’t believe that I need motivation to go.”

Dolores continued, “When people ask, ‘Why don’t you just hit the gym?’ I work hard and try to monitor my diet. With GLP-1s, if you overeat initially, you can feel extremely nauseous, even to the point of vomiting. You need support to manage that, which is likely why many don’t discuss it openly; it’s simply a reality of living with GLP-1s.”

In the interview, Dolores also mentioned her partnership with My Advanced Herbals®, the creators of Dramamine®, to help alleviate GLP-1 side effects such as nausea and constipation. She noted that the ginger chews have been a game-changer in managing these effects.

“GLP-1 medications can cause nausea, and it hit me particularly hard,” Dolores confessed. “I’m not sure I would have completed my weight loss journey without the ginger chews.”

She explained that when she began her GLP-1 journey, doctors did not provide any advice on managing side effects.

“I want everyone to be aware of this because doctors suggested a nausea medication that also causes constipation,” she elaborated. “GLP-1s involve a lot of protein and carbs, which can make you feel unwell. Sugars can also induce nausea.”

One day, while shopping at CVS, Dolores discovered Advanced Herbals® Ginger Chews: “I realized it wasn’t a medication. I researched it and saw it was from the makers of Dramamine, which is a go-to for nausea. I tried it, and it really helped me overcome the nausea and continue my journey.”

Having been on a GLP-1 for over two years, Dolores shared that the medication has not only aided her weight loss but has also significantly improved her overall health.

“I’m now on a much lower maintenance dosage,” Dolores explained. “I feel great, and my blood work is excellent. My boyfriend, Paul [Connell], has even stopped taking blood pressure medication after losing weight.”

She added, “While I’m on maintenance levels now, I still experience nausea if I eat the wrong foods, which is my body’s way of signaling that I’ve made a poor choice. That’s why I always carry my ginger chews.”

In addition to her collaboration with Advanced Herbals®, Dolores has launched a new web series titled “The Dish on GLP-1s,” where she and Dr. Holly Lofton, a Board Certified Obesity Medicine Physician at NYU Langone, will address questions patients may have about GLP-1 medications.
