Michael Zelman & Hamid Mokhneche Launch Tyrus Pictures in L.A.
EXCLUSIVE: Michael Zelman and Hamid Mokhneche have unveiled their L.A.-based production company, Tyrus Pictures, which aims to deliver internationally focused films with a film fund backed by private partners.
Leadership Team
Former WME and LD Entertainment executive Zelman will act as CEO, while producer and screenwriter Mokhneche will take on the role of President of Production and Development. Albert J. Zdenek, Jr., a major shareholder, has been appointed Executive Chairman of the company.
Creative Vision
The co-founders emphasize a commitment to “raw, emotionally resonant storytelling,” drawing inspiration from films like Whiplash, Anora, and Slumdog Millionaire. Their goal is to produce one to two feature films annually, with budgets ranging from $5 million to $50 million, focusing on creative quality and distinctive narratives. Tyrus Pictures is open to both domestic and international co-productions as part of its collaborative filmmaking approach.
Upcoming Projects
Among their initial projects is an English-language remake of the classic 1931 French film The Unknown Singer, originally directed by Victor Tourjansky. The film tells the story of a legendary French singer who returns with no memory, hidden face, and an unmistakable voice. His former lover clings to hope while those who betrayed him fear his return.
Mokhneche is currently writing the script. He expressed, “When I first saw the film, I was captivated by its mysterious atmosphere and the use of music as a narrative force. By the end, I knew we had a powerful tale of vengeance and masked identity, reminiscent of The Count of Monte Cristo and The Phantom of the Opera. A timeless story, reimagined for a new generation.”
The remake rights were secured through negotiations with SACD (France’s Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers), represented by Julie Parrens-Dottel and Fabien Colmant. Additional rights were acquired from Ghislaine Gracieux, who oversees the estate of Henri-Georges Clouzot. Production is anticipated to commence in Q2 2026.
Further Titles
Additional projects include Emily’s House, a psychological horror novel by acclaimed French author Jean-Pierre Andrevon. The story follows a man visiting an old flame living off the grid in southern France, leading to a surreal journey where time, desire, and reality unravel. Deal terms were negotiated by Mokhneche and Zelman in collaboration with Andrevon.
