Trump Fires Maurene Comey: Implications for Diddy Case

In a surprising move, Donald Trump has fired Maurene Comey, the top prosecutor involved in the controversial case against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. This decision raises significant questions about the future of the ongoing investigations into Epstein and Combs.

Trump Fires Sean “Diddy” Combs & Jeffrey Epstein Top Prosecutor Maurene Comey

It’s always personal with Donald Trump.

Eight years ago, Trump fired James Comey, and today he has dismissed the ex-FBI Director’s daughter, Maurene Comey.

In a move that seemed inevitable due to the President’s ongoing animosity towards Maurene Comey’s father, who has been accused of being a puppet of Putin, the former Celebrity Apprentice host’s DOJ terminated the top-tier prosecutor on Wednesday.

A long-time Assistant U.S. Attorney at the Southern District of New York office, which her father once led, Comey was most recently the lead attorney in the government’s unsuccessful case of sex trafficking and racketeering against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Well-regarded by colleagues and defense attorneys alike, Comey also played a significant role in the criminal cases against the late Jeffrey Epstein and his currently incarcerated associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

While the SDNY declined to comment on Comey’s firing after a decade in the influential office, three sources confirmed the termination to Deadline. Comey was reportedly fired through a letter, possibly delivered via email.

Comey’s exit comes at a time when significant voices within Trump’s MAGA base are in a state of near open revolt. The President himself has recently stated that there is no substantial evidence regarding Epstein, despite years of promises to release files on the well-connected billionaire pedophile who died in prison in 2019 under suspicious circumstances. Under pressure from his supporters, a deflecting Trump stated, “these files were made up by Comey, they were made up by Obama, they were made up by the Biden administration.”

Trump has been a long-time acquaintance of Epstein, openly discussing their relationship in a 2002 interview: “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”

During his campaign, Trump pledged to make public the information the Department of Justice had on Epstein and potential high-profile names associated with him. Earlier this year, after returning to the White House, Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed she had the list and the Epstein file on her desk. Although it was later revealed that the file contained no new information, the AG invited friendly influencers and media to the Executive Mansion to showcase a much-hyped binder on Epstein.

When the relationship between Trump and Elon Musk soured, Musk took to his X social media platform on June 5 to drop “the really big bomb,” asserting that POTUS “is in the Epstein files.” Musk added in a now-deleted post: “That is the real reason they have not been made public.”

The DOJ’s sudden downplaying of any so-called “client list” in a recent memo, along with an assertion that Epstein died by his own hand, has fueled speculation and concern within MAGA circles, potentially leading to Maurene Comey’s dismissal.

Her firing, which many anticipated once her involvement in the Combs case became widely known, will undoubtedly complicate the Diddy case as he awaits sentencing on the two lesser charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, for which he was found guilty on July 2.

Having narrowly avoided life imprisonment during a six-week trial focused heavily on prosecution witnesses, the Bad Boy Records founder is currently set to be sentenced on October 3 by Judge Arun Subramanian. Assuming Trump does not issue a highly sought-after pardon, and with time served since his September 2024 arrest, Combs could potentially be released within two years under sentencing guidelines.

Regardless, Maurene Comey will not be present at the prosecution desk for what is likely to be her final case for the government.
