Piers Morgan Calls Late-Night Hosts Partisan Activists

Piers Morgan has stirred controversy by criticizing late-night hosts for their perceived partisanship, particularly in light of Stephen Colbert’s recent show cancellation.

Piers Morgan Critiques Late-Night Hosts as Partisan

While Stephen Colbert has garnered support from fellow late-night hosts following the cancellation of The Late Show, Piers Morgan has voiced his dissent.

Allegations of Partisanship

Today, the British media personality took to X to criticize Colbert and other late-night figures, claiming they are merely puppets for the Democratic Party.

“This is so damning,” Morgan remarked alongside a New York Post cover highlighting the political leanings of Colbert’s guests, predominantly left-leaning. “Most of America’s biggest late-night hosts have become nothing more than hyper-partisan activist hacks for the Democrats — a party that’s rarely been more unpopular. No wonder Colbert got canned. More will follow.”

Support for Jay Leno’s Comments

Morgan, who has both supported and criticized Donald Trump, echoed Jay Leno’s recent remarks about late-night hosts alienating half their audience by being too partisan.

Critique of John Oliver

In another tweet, Morgan targeted fellow U.K. host John Oliver, stating: “UPDATE: Just watched a drooling @60Minutes segment tonight about John Oliver who was proud of telling his viewers not to vote for Trump at last election. He told them to vote for Kamala Harris instead. That’s not comedy, it’s partisan political activism.”

On Colbert’s Cancellation

Responding to political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Morgan stated, “Trump didn’t cancel Colbert… he cancelled himself with poor ratings, huge costs, and boring viewers with anti-Trump bias.”

Just days after Colbert criticized Paramount’s $16 million settlement with Trump, he announced the cancellation of The Late Show, a franchise that began with David Letterman in 1993. Executives defended the decision as a financial one, unrelated to the show’s content or performance.

Political Fallout

Since the shocking announcement on July 17, Trump has celebrated the show’s cancellation, while the Writers Guild of America has called for an investigation into potential wrongdoing at Paramount. Several Senate Democrats have also expressed concerns about the cancellation’s political implications.

In response, protesters gathered outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. Colbert, however, has vowed to continue speaking out, telling Trump to “go f— himself.” In a July 21 episode, he stated, “But [CBS] made one mistake. They left me alive. Now for the next 10 months, the gloves are off. I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump. I don’t care for him. Doesn’t have the skillset to be president.”
