HBO Max Unveils First Look at ‘The Pitt’ Season 2: “And So It Begins”

HBO Max has unveiled the first footage from The Pitt season two through a teaser trailer, showcasing some of the emergencies and characters viewers can expect in the Max original’s second installment, set for the July 4th weekend.

Returning Characters and New Faces

The preview confirms the return of Katherine LaNasa’s charge nurse Dana Evans, who shares a moment with Noah Wyle‘s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, after her dramatic decision to quit at the end of a grueling 15-hour shift in season one. Fellow beleaguered character Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), who was kicked out of the emergency room by Robby in season one for hiding his drug use, is also shown returning, surveying the hospital.

The teaser also introduces new emergency attending physician Dr. Al-Hashimi, portrayed by Sepideh Moafi, who is seen anxiously observing a procedure alongside Robby. Returning cast members include Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Taylor Dearden (Dr. King), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker), and Shabana Azeez (Javadi).

Teaser Highlights

The clip opens with Robby entering the ER, reminiscent of the first-look photo released when production on season two commenced earlier this summer. A character at the desk remarks, “the prodigal son returns.” Following brief glimpses of trauma scenes, including a patient struggling with restraints in an ambulance and a voiceover announcing a “tier one trauma ETA six minutes,” Robby declares, “And so it begins.”

The rapid-fire compilation also features police officers rushing through the halls, a baby squirming, and a cast being removed. The teaser concludes on a lighter note as a nurse questions Dr. Santos if they “do this every day,” to which she replies, “If we’re lucky.”

Season Two Insights

While there is no specific release date for season two, which appears to still be in production, HBO Max has announced it will return in January. Season two of The Pitt is set 10 months after season one, over the July 4 weekend, allowing Robby and the other characters to address the aftermath of the mass shooting and other incidents from the previous season.

Creator and showrunner R. Scott Gemmill previously stated, “When we come back, a lot of story has transpired between our characters, giving us a chance to catch up.” He emphasized the unique summer setting, stating, “There’s a holiday; there’s lots going on in the city, a lot of unique things to summertime that bring you into the ER.”

Despite uncertainty surrounding LaNasa’s return, Wyle humorously noted her significance to the series, saying, “Fan favorite Katherine LaNasa not come back? Come on now.”

As Robby grapples with his trauma following a meltdown near the end of season one, both Wyle and Gemmill have hinted that the second season will explore his journey toward healing.

Looking Ahead

Wyle remarked, “So it’s really a question for season two: problem identified, season two treatment.” The narrative will delve into how physicians, including Robby, confront their past traumas while navigating their professional responsibilities.

The Pitt, which garnered 13 Emmy nominations for its first season, is executive produced by Gemmill, Wyle, John Wells, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, and Simran Baidwan.
