Remembering Skip Brittenham: A Legal Luminary
Skip Brittenham, the powerhouse Hollywood attorney who co-founded Ziffren Brittenham and represented star clients such as Harrison Ford, Tim Allen, and Eddie Murphy, passed away today at the age of 83 after a long illness.
Legacy and Contributions
His firm, which he had recently departed from, confirmed the news but did not provide further details. “Everyone in our industry knew of Skip’s legal prowess,” Ziffren Brittenham LLP stated. “But some may not have known of his quiet generosity, his ability to find humor and opportunity in the darkest moments, and his unwavering belief that media and the entertainment industry must serve people, not the other way around.”
Henry “Skip” Brittenham co-founded Ziffren Brittenham with Ken Ziffren in 1978 and played a pivotal role in launching Pixar, Illumination Entertainment, and Skydance Media, as well as facilitating the split of DreamWorks SKG into separate entities.
A Unique Approach to Law
He was known for working out his calls and cases in the halls of the firm before making phone calls or appearing in court.
We have just lost our esteemed friend and partner, Skip (Harry M.) Brittenham. Everyone in our industry knew of Skip’s legal prowess. But some may not have known of his quiet generosity, his ability to find humor and opportunity in the darkest moments, and his unwavering belief that media and the entertainment industry must serve people, not the other way around.
His passion for fly fishing was far more than a hobby; it was a window into his soul. He pursued pristine and turbulent waters across six continents with the same dedication he brought to complex legal issues. His fishing stories revealed that he understood the greatest rewards come to those willing to wait, observe, and strike with perfect timing.
Skip was also a formidable tennis player and an avid UCLA Bruin basketball fan.

His clients, whether newcomers in entertainment or top executives, felt empowered under his guidance. He mentored virtually every new hire, teaching them how to influence “the other side.” His pride in those who grew in prominence at Ziffren Brittenham speaks volumes.
At his core, family came first. His loyalty and care for his wife Heather and three daughters, Kristina, Shauna, and India, were unmatched. He is survived by his brother Bud, two devoted sons-in-law, and four wonderful grandchildren. To say he adored them doesn’t do him justice.
We deeply mourn his passing and know we will be stronger by honoring the enduring power of his legacy.
Sincerely,
Ziffren Brittenham LLP
