Netflix has officially scheduled the Season 2 premiere of A Man On The Inside for November 20. Alongside this announcement, plot details for the upcoming season have been confirmed, and we’re excited to introduce new cast members, including Mary Steenburgen, who will star alongside her real-life husband, series lead Ted Danson.
New Season Overview
Created by Mike Schur, this series adopts an anthology format, with Charles (played by Danson) taking on a new case each season. In Season 1, he went undercover at a retirement home. For Season 2, Charles will investigate a liberal arts college, where he encounters a music professor portrayed by Steenburgen.

The official synopsis reads: “Eager to tackle another significant undercover case, Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson) is enlisted by Jack Berenger (played by Max Greenfield), the president of Wheeler College, to go undercover as a professor when a mysterious blackmailer threatens him. As Charles delves into the case, he discovers potential connections to the billionaire Brad Vinick (played by Gary Cole), a Wheeler alumnus proposing a substantial donation to the school. Amidst the investigation, Charles finds himself drawn to the free-spirited music teacher Mona (Steenburgen), whose vibrant personality stirs feelings he believed were long buried after his wife’s passing. Is he ready to embrace love again? Moreover, has he unknowingly fallen for the very criminal he’s tasked with exposing?
Meanwhile, his daughter Emily (played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis) is inspired by her father’s transformation and rekindles a long-forgotten passion, while PI Julie (played by Lilah Richcreek Estrada) embarks on her own path of growth by reconnecting with a significant figure from her past.”

A Man On The Inside is inspired by the documentary The Mole Agent, which was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for Best Documentary Feature. The cast also includes Stephanie Beatriz, Michaela Conlin, Lisa Gilroy, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Madison Hu, Sam Huntington, Jason Mantzoukas, Constance Marie, Linda Park, David Strathairn, and Jill Talley.
