Sasha Breslau Takes the Helm in the UK
In the UK, seasoned ITV Head of Content Acquisitions, Sasha Breslau, has been appointed as Vice President of Content Acquisitions for HBO Max in the UK and Ireland. Breslau will assume her role in October, reporting to Ragnhild Thorbech, SVP of Programming & Acquisitions, EMEA. Her responsibilities will include shaping Warner Bros. Discovery’s content strategy for HBO Max and leading acquisitions for UK and Irish audiences.
Alessandro Volpato Joins as Director for Italy
Meanwhile, Alessandro Volpato, currently a Senior Manager of Content Acquisition at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, will become the Director of Acquisitions for HBO Max Italy. He will report to Joana Silva, VP of Programming & Acquisitions, and will be instrumental in acquiring content for the platform, which is set to launch in early 2026.
Strategic Importance of the Launches
The launches in the UK, Ireland, Italy, and Germany are viewed as critical for Warner Bros. Discovery, especially as Sky has traditionally provided HBO content in these markets. Breslau, recognized as one of the UK’s leading buyers of international content, brings over two decades of experience from ITV and Channel 4. Since joining ITV in 2008, she has played a key role in building the library for ITVX, acquiring over 8,000 hours of content, including hits like Love & Death and The Originals.
Volpato’s Experience and Responsibilities
Volpato, who has previously worked with Warner Bros. International, will lead negotiations with Italian and European studios and distributors, focusing on both local and pan-European projects. His extensive background includes deals for popular shows such as Pesci Piccoli and Sconfort Zone.
